playing with classic portraiture and modern day elements
|
After discussions with Sharon we came to the conclusion that i needed to contemporaries the context of the story into the modern day, this way i could create designs that used my creativity and character development skills in creating elements in hair and makeup that related to the character profile rather than a time period. We began thinking about contexts that would follow a similar narrative and decided upon the idea of a diplomate going into a high risk country that gets killed. Private boarding school in the UK are still very popular with the higher classes so this would be able to follow the same idea within the school.
Further talking with Sharon and fellow student we began discussing the Private school status what this is about and related story's we all had about people we had known that have been, all the girls have the best materialistic belonging the mum's have a battle of the play ground attitude with both materialistic things but also who's child is the most talented in out of school activities, dance, hockey, gymnastics, swimming these are the extra circular activities that are promoted within these schools another cost but a cost thats essential if they want their child to be involved. I will take this discussion and feed it into the context of the story.
With changing the context pitch I feel I am now able to create innovative aesthetics through out all design elements of both the production, book and imagery this is something I feel has opened my audience up to a wider group of people much like the National Theatres recent adaptation of Alice and Wonderland (Wander.Land) exploring the narrative in a contemporary and creative world, gave the production a wider audience appeal as it was something new and not boxed into a children's story. It also allowed the creative teams to really explore adult themes and push conventions of the story's aesthetic something i now feel i have opened myself up too.

Extra notes:
Create beautiful Hair
Use Hair to tell the story
Hair is everything for you & this project
Other points that were talked about were set, this is another important component suggested looking upstairs in Re:So? space there is good lighting, will go and have a look at this space in the week failing this i will be using a studio; black back drop, simple set, props and objects to set the scene in a simplistic but effective way.
Following this meeting i will re research and story board for the new idea to validate the change of era. I feel inspired and excited after the change in time period i feel this is more ME i already feel more free to explore my creative talents creating hair that tells a story.
