Meeting Sharon, 11th April

Lauren Childs, Princess and the pea

Children illustrator, Lauren uses mixed media to capture the reader. A children's story that appeals to the wider audience including adults. Sharon explained when she received the book for her daughter she was captured by it, not wanting to give it to her daughter, and keeping at as an art work in its self.

'This utterly original interpretation of the classic tale has dazzling illustrations from multi-talented collaborators, award-winning Lauren Child and widely acclaimed photographer Polly Borland. This beautifully presented picture book explores the tale of the down-to-earth princess through a stunning mix of artwork and photography to create a fairy tale to be treasured.'

Inspire to use a mix of materials, photographs, stitching, overlays, textures to create beautiful pages.
(bringing in the book, for further analysis and detailed look at the work)

Notes on the Writing aspect: Write as if it was for your ideal cast, story, the backstage stuff only needs to be a page or two and a few pictures.

Loved the practise of layout styles, 'what if each chapter is another style, narrative of the layout style with the story'!
